When DC reached out to me about taking part in their 90’s throwback variant cover event, I was of course interested.. but when they asked me to try my hand at styling Diana, I had to say yes. She’s always a treat to draw, but getting to go all out on big hair and a full-denim getup was a rare opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Here are the concepts I submitted:
Turns out, they actually liked both options B + C enough to ask me to finish out both of them, but as far as which one got done first ended up being dealer’s choice. I decided to go with C so I could really play with those denim textures but don’t worry, I’ll be sharing full details on B in a separate post soon. By the way, if any of you are curious, I achieved Diana’s all-denim look by using these free texture patterns from GRACEPRO on the official Clip Studio Assets store—I’ve been using CSP more often these days and I’m always super surprised at the number of quality free materials that are constantly shared by other artists.
I’m not sure if they ended up going through with this but my understanding was that all the 90’s variants would feature a neon spot color on the final print, and the color I was assigned was this kind of crazy reddish-orangey-salmon. If any of you pick up a hard copy, you’ll have to let me know how it turned out!
Here’s the cover without dress:
And just for club members, I’ve included some larger wallpapers for your phone and/or desktop behind the jump. 🙏💖
