My variant cover for VAULT's new series

My variant for FOX and HARE #1, available at your LCS later this month! I got a chance to take a look at the interiors for this book pretty early on and I gotta say, it’s absolutely gorgeous. I’m a huge fan of Stacey Lee—she’s got such a great style and her sequentials feel like a beautiful blend of western superhero comics and shonen manga; they’re full of kinetic energy but simultaneously very easy to read and follow because she’s great about pulling back on detail when it’s not necessary (which is something I personally struggle with whenever I draw comics).

I’ve also been a longtime fan of Jon Tsuei’s work, and it’s so cool to get to see him lean into a truly sci-fi story. Fox and Hare harkens back to classics like Ghost in the Shell and The Animatrix in a lot of (really good) ways, and I can’t wait to see what people think of it! VAULT is constantly putting out some of the most interesting comics on shelves, imo, and this one is a really solid addition to their 2022 lineup.

Here are the concepts I sent in:

I didn’t want to not provide a color version, but I actually quite liked the b&w with single orange accent that I submitted in option B, so I decided to provide them with both colorways and let them decide which to go with. I believe they’ve actually done a limited run of the grayscale one, too..!

Here’s the design sheet by Stacey for these two—I love her designs so I thought I’d share 🤩 Techwear is super trendy these days in sci-fi/futuristic character design, but I feel like she really managed to make them feel fresh and unique. Anyway, I’m excited for the release later this month. Lemme know if you add F&H to your pull list!
